Advanced Run FAQ

Dear Visitor,

The set of question consists completely of questions that other customers asked us. If you didn't find the answer to your question and you think your question should be published you can ask us.

  • I tried to open a folded on behalf of other user account but it opened with rights of user account I'm working on.
    By default Windows Explorer opens folders in the context of it's the single instance so when you invoke the command 'C:\' you do not run second instance of Windows Explorer. Instead, the running instance of Windows Explorer just receives a command to open the specified folder (this behaviout is also known as DDE conversation). The same is possible with Microsoft Internet Explorer when you try to invoke some URL. And will be so with all programs that have such a behaviour. And off course the command like this '<find> C:\' could not be invoked on behalf of other user account.

    Note: version 3.0 already has built-in DDE conversation checking mechanism so if it occurs you'll be notified with an appropriate message.
  • I'd like you open Control Panel as administrator when I'm logged in as limited user but I can't do this.
    You're really not able to open Control Panel as other user. It is because the same issue that was described in the first question. But there are other way to use Control Panel features without Control Panel running. Below is the list of essential commands that you can run with user credentials.

    As you can see there are a lot of commands you can use without using Control Panel. Actually, the list above could not contain commands that could be available on your computer. To get a complete list of available Control Panel applets and MMC snap-ins go to System32 directory and find all .CPL and .MSC files. Or run the following below command line using Advanced Run:
    cmd /c dir /b /O:N %SystemRoot%\System32\*.cpl %SystemRoot%\System32\*.msc > %TEMP%\applets.txt && start /wait notepad %TEMP%\applets.txt && del %TEMP%\applets.txt
    Note: 3.0 version has a lot of preinstalled command shortcuts that allow to access the majority of Control Panel functionality.
  • Why does a process that I've run with a security profile have no all priviliges enabled or disabled when they are excplicitly enabled or disabled in my security profile?
    The security profile is rather the list of recomendations for a system to enable or disable some privileges then a list of strict instructions. Each user account has the lists of permitted and prohibited privileges and there is no way to enable a privilege in case it is inaccessible for a particular user account. However, version 3.0 performs a checking for privileges that was not properly applied to a newly created process and notifies a user when any privileges was not applied.
